Belgium/Port Washington Area Accommodations

The Luxembourg American Cultural Society is the proud sponsor of a four-day Luxembourg Heritage Weekend normally celebrated the weekend of the second Sunday of August.  Heritage Weekend coincides with the Luxembourg Fest of Belgium, Wisconsin.  The purpose of Heritage Weekend is to celebrate Luxembourg heritage through education, cultural experiences and fellowship.  For the dates of this year’s Luxembourg Heritage Weekend, consult the LACS website Calendar of Events

The schedule of events for the four day celebration of Heritage Weekend is below.  Note that other cultural experiences during Heritage Weekend such as concerts, guest artists and musicians, etc. vary from year to year.

Thursday of Heritage Weekend:

  • Luxembourg Heritage Tour of Northern Ozaukee County – Ozaukee County and a small southern section of Sheboygan County are home to one of the largest rural settlements of people of Luxembourg descent in the U.S.  The circle tour involves a charter bus tour of many of the area’s unique Luxembourg heritage sites including:  St. Mary’s 1882 Church, Port Washington; the 1860 Port Washington Light Station; Luxembourg Immigrant Stone Houses; St. Mary’s 1884 Church, Lake Church; St. Nicholas 1911 Church and Cemetery, Dacada; Stony Hill School – the Birthplace of U.S. Flag Day, Waubeka; the Americanism Center, Waubeka; the Sinnen Luxembourg Settler Stone House, Fredonia; Curley’s Restaurant (formerly the Belgium House), etc.

Friday of Heritage Weekend:

  • Luxembourg American Cultural Conference The only conference of its kind in the U.S., the LACS Cultural Conference is an day-long conference highlighting a variety of topics pertaining to Luxembourg heritage/culture in America, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – past and present, commerce, touring Luxembourg, genealogy and research, etc.  An outstanding slate of presenters both from Luxembourg and the United States makes this an enriching and enlightening conference you won’t want to miss!

Saturday of Heritage Weekend:

  • Green Heart Gala Dinner Auction – The Green Heart Gala Dinner Auction is the LACS’ largest and most important fundraiser for the year.  All proceeds go to the operation of the society and cultural center.  The Gala includes a silent auction, voice auction, and a delicious banquet.  Many unique and collectible auction items are imported from the Grand Duchy.  The Gala draws Luxembourg Americans from throughout the United States as well as guests and dignitaries from the Grand Duchy.  It is the Luxembourgish social event of the year!

  • “Green Heart 5K Walk/Run Luxembourg Fest of Belgium, Wisconsin begins with the Green Heart 5K Walk/Run at 8:00 a.m. in the Belgium Village Park.  The Walk/Run benefits the “T-Baum” Foundation.  All are welcome to participate!

  • Luxembourg Fest Parade – Experience an old-fashioned, small town parade down Main Street in Belgium at 2:00 p.m.  The parade includes antique farm machinery, floats, guests of honor, etc.  The parade is followed by country western music in the Belgium Village Park.

Sunday of Heritage Weekend:

  • Luxembourg Fest Pagaent, Outdoor Mass, Celebration The Sunday of Luxembourg Fest begins with a pageant recognizing the Fest’s honored families along with the “crowning” of the Fest’s “Duke and Duchess.”  This ceremony is followed by the celebration of an Outdoor Mass in the pavilion in the Belgium Village Park.  After Mass enjoy music, ethnic food (including mustreipen), beverages, genealogy/heritage displays, and fellowship.
