“Luxembourgers in the New World” – Two Volume Set – Nicholas Gonnor translation and index by Jean Ensch, Jean-Claude Muller, Robert E. Owen
The LACS is proud to be the ONLY U.S. distributor of this renowned, two-volume set, that is a “must-have” for all those interested in Luxembourg American history and genealogy. 
Volume I is an English translation of Nicholas Gonner’s 1889 book Die Luxemburger in der Neuen Welt.  This book thoroughly describes the cause and patterns of Luxembourg emigration to the U.S.  It gives a state by state commentary on Luxembourg settlements and other fascinating data and facts.  Published in 1987, 393 pages, soft-cover.
Volume II is an index by name and community of Nicholas Gonner’s Luxemburger Gazette newspaper published in Dubuque, Iowa from 1871 – 1918.  The Gazette is available on microfilm at the LACS Research Center and other venues.  This book is an invaluable resource of Luxembourg surnames and communities and includes other commentary.  Published in 1987, 682 pages with map of Luxembourg settlements in U.S., soft-cover.   NOTE:  Sold only as two-volume set.$70/set + $12 s/h

“Prairieblummen:  Eng sammlonk fu lidder a gedichter an onserer létzebûrgerdeitscher sprôch” – Nicholas Gonner (1835-1892),  Compilation and Commentary by Sandra Schmit, Centre National De Littérature, Luxembourg

Originally published in 1883, Prairieblummen was a collection of musical poetry (lidder) and a glossary of words in Lëtzebuergesch compiled by Nicholas Gonner.  Gonner is considered the most noteworthy 19th century Luxembourg immigrant to the United States. He was long-time editor of the Luxemburger Gazette newspaper published in Dubuque, Iowa.  Prairieblummen featured lidder composed by Gonner, J. B. Nau, and the noted immigrant poet, Nicholas E. Becker of Wisconsin.  Sandra Schmit has republished the original poems from Prairieblummen along with an extensive commentary on Gonner and Becker, and Gonner’s original glossary.  The book features many illustrations and is No. 15 in the National Center for Literature’s Lëtzebuerger Bibliothéik Series.  Published in 2008 in Lëtzebuergesch and German. $25 + $7 s/h
