Luxembourgers Celebrate St. Nicholas
Come and see the LACS’ newest Exhibit!
The Museum’s Changing Exhibit area is proud to present a display of St. Nicholas Traditions throughout the generations.

The St. Nicholas feast day was one of the most beloved traditions of Luxembourg immigrants. Tradition held that St. Nicholas went around to different houses dispersing treats to those children who had been good while his companion, Black Peter, gave out lumps of coal or switches, to those children that had been naughty during the year. Those traditions are still celebrated amongst families today, whether it be leaving their shoes on the back porch, or hanging their stockings by the fireplace to be filled with treats. The St. Nick tradition is equally strong in Luxembourg today, and Luxembourgers do their primary gift-giving on his feast day.
The LACS’ exhibit includes many different facets, so make sure to stop by and see:
- The Legend of St. Nick
- Traditional recipes
- Personal St. Nick memories of LACS members
- Early immigrant Traditions
- Historic Pictures
- And so much more!
The exhibit will run through January 16th during museum hours, so stop by and see it before it’s gone!
